JUSSI Jaaskelainen believes Jay Jay Okocha can make as big an impact for Wanderers as Youri Djorkaeff.

The Nigerian superstar showed evidence of his amazing talent when he came on as substitute for the final 35 minutes of Tuesday night's home draw with Sunderland.

It was the fifth consecutive Premiership match he has played as a substitute and while he has only made one appearance in the starting line-up - the opening game at Fulham - his eye-catching performance suggests he could soon be knocking on the door of the first 11.

When that happens Jaaskelainen is predicting big things of the 29-year-old World Cup star whose pedigree is proved by the 59 caps he has won for his country.

"Jay Jay has unbelievable ability which we will see more of when he gets used to the Premier League," Jaaskelainen said.

"It always takes a few games to settle into playing in the Premiership and Jay Jay is no different.

"It was a similar situation with Youri Djorkaeff last season. When he first came in people were wondering why the manager had signed him but after three or four games he was fantastic and everyone saw exactly why the manager signed him.

"It is the same with Jay Jay. He is settling in at the moment and getting used to the Premier League. When he has played more games people will see what he can do."

Jaaskelainen adds that while others may harp on about Wanderers being bottom of the table it is not a topic which is raised inside the dressing room.

"It is not nice being bottom but the players don't talk about it because that would only add extra pressure to an already difficult situation," he explained.

"Despite our league position we have improved on last season and the main thing now is we don't put ourselves under pressure.

"It is important to start climbing and to do that everyone has to stick together and the fans can play a big part in that."

"It is very important that the supporters stay behind us. They were great against Sunderland and they can help the team greatly by staying behind us."
