Leigh 1st XV 43 Northwich 22 - PLAYING with a strong wind at their backs, Leigh set off at breakneck speed and an early break by Wynne fed Bridge to score the opening try converted by Wilcock.
Bridge was on hand again shortly afterwards to gather a Leigh kick and put Bate over in the corner, again converted by Wilcock for a 14 point lead after 10 minutes.
Northwich replied with a series of driving mauls from their large pack of forwards which produced a penalty to open their account, but following a Wilcock break, Murray set up full-back Fletcher for an unconverted try.
Northwich again returned to the attack via their driving forwards but Leigh's response was an 80 metre interception try by Bridge and simple conversion by Wilcock for a 26-3 lead.
A quickly taken tap penalty saw Bridge set up Murray for a further try converted by Wilcock followed shortly by a penalty from the same player for a comfortable 36-3half time lead.
With the wind behind them in the second half, Northwich re-started in a more determined fashion and scrambled a try and conversion to reduce the deficit. The visitors were now on the offensive and Leigh began to concede a string of penalties and errors in their anxiety to protect their lead. They succumbed to another unconverted try.
Prescott replaced Bailey in the front row but Northwich continued to capitalise on Leigh's defensive handling and reduced the scoreline to 36-22.
With time running out, Wilcock eventually made the result safe with a cheeky chip ahead from under his own posts, to re-gather and outpace the cover defence over the length of the field for a final converted try.
Northwich 21 Leigh 2nd XV 31
After a couple of lacklustre displays in the league Leigh got back to winning ways at Northwich in some style. Fielding a strong pack Leigh were able to give the speedy backline the platform to run in some fine tries.
Leigh's tries came from Bates, Faid, Baines and Hunt (2).
Leigh Hawks 42 Northwich 15
The Hawks finally reached their true potential with an efficient demolition of a useful Northwich side.
A brace from Fitzmartin followed by a well taken try for Waterworth paved the way for a Ronnie Davies try to close the scoring at half time.
Davies scored two further tries for a personal haul of 27 points.
Liverpool St Helens 13 Leigh Tofts 22
The Tofts recorded another memorable victory, outplaying a bigger, stronger home side.
Lawrenson and McKeever were outstanding in a fine team performance. First half tries came from centres Fairclough and Fallon to see Leigh 12-8 up at half time.
Fallon add his second try and Yates secured victory with a classic darting run through the heart of the Liverpool St Helens defence.
Wilmslow 0 Leigh Vets 33
Dainty opened the scoring in the first half, when after spending his customary 10 minutes in the sin bin, he came back refreshed to easily outpace the oppositions defence to score. Unsworth added another before the break after a quick tap from the generous scrum-half Delaney. Cummings kicked the conversion for a 12-0 lead at half-time.
The second half was all about the Vets powerful defence and scintillating attacking play with tries coming from Unsworth (2) and Sutton with Cunnings adding three more conversions.
Junior Colts 5 Altrincham & Kersal 0
Leigh edged home in atrocious weather conditions, where both sides worked manfully against the elements. Playing into a strong wind Leigh defended stoutly with some excellent tackling, to keep the visitors scoreless at the interval.
The second half saw Leigh with the wind at their backs, but unfortunately they did not look like turning this to their advantage. Leigh however continued to press and were rewarded with a late try from Thomas Andrews.
Fleetwood U14s 10 Leigh U14s 36
Fleetwood opened the scoring after only two minutes, but this only served to fire Leigh into action. Cunningham rounded the defence easily and then Pendlebury gave Leigh a deserved lead. A second-half of superb teamwork saw Fleetwood taken apart by another Pendlebury scorcher, followed by two typical Andrews tries and a deserved try for the hard working Trumble. Pendlebury converted three.
Fleetwood U13s 28 Leigh U13s 5
The U13s travelled to Fleetwood to play in appalling conditions and found themselves 21-0 down at the break.
With the elements behind them Leigh put pressure on Fleetwood with good distribution from David Sale and excellent breaks by Dale Parkinson, Roger Stafford and John Lycett in the backs were unlucky not to be rewarded. Leigh's persistence eventually paid off when Chris Boyle went on another rampaging run only to be stopped feet short of the line, but Patrick Roberts was on hand to scoop the ball up and crash over for his first try.
In a round robin competition, the under 12's matches were played in appalling conditions.
The scorers were Andrew Newton, Gareth Davies, Peter Hilton, Joe Harrison and Jonathan Grimshaw (2).
Against Aspull things were a lot closer and the teams drew 10-10.
Leigh U11s 62 Fleetwood U11s 0
Newcomer, second row star Chris Aspinall scored his first try, Mathew Barrett, Sean Checkley, Chris Hull, Kyle Hunter, worked well with super scrum half Adam Bostock to create opportunity for try scorers to notch-up the points.
Ricky Buxton (3), Robert Woods (2), both raised their game and used controlled aggression to massacre the defence, while joint Man Of the Match winners, Edward Leck and Robert Millward, used their talents well, Millward kicking six out of 10 goals in poor conditions.
The U10s also hosted Fleetwood and Aspull in a 3-way round-robin. The U10's played 2 games. In the first against Aspull Leigh dominated with tries from Farley, Orrell (2), Kidd, Heywood, and a first try of the season for McLoughlin. The second game against Fleetwood was a more closely fought battle. Excellent running from Kidd lead to the first try followed by a first try of the season for new arrival Roberts in his first appearance. The winning try for Fleetwood was scored by a Leigh player, Heywood.

Leigh played some entertaining rugby in severe weather conditions. Leigh's scorers were Matthew Williamson with 5, Jake Halliday, Chris Smith, Shaun Carney and Emma one try each.
