THIS time last year, five or six teams remained unbeaten in the Bolton Winter Tennis League, but currently there are only two.
Walmersley A have carried all before them, strongly lead by Dave Gerrard in tandem with a resurrected Steve Routledge. Admirable ladies' support has come largely from Gail Blackburn - her play nicely complemented by Lisa Morley.
In Division Two, David Lloyd A have yet to lose, but have some fierce challenges to come. Sarah Bleakley is at the helm admirably supported by Wendy Birchall and Jim Lever. They look well-equipped for the battles to come.
Chief of these may be against Astley, hot favourites until this weekend when they suffered a surprise reverse against Harwood. Astley were below strength, missing the invaluable contribution of Gill Dempsey, and, not least, Hannah Wilson. Nonetheless, a fine performance from Harwood, with Steve Horridge in good form and Jane Blake and Gill Entwistle an unstoppable ladies pairing.
Judging from the score, the Walkers A versus Walkers C match was played in an intra-club spirit, Nigel Horsier in especially ruthless form.
