PATIENTS will now be able to enjoy a haven of tranquility after a Jubilee Garden was created in the grounds of the Royal Bolton Hospital -- thanks to money left in a will by a local woman.
The £6,000 garden, the brainchild of local couple Rev David Douglas and his wife, Jean, has been dedicated to the memory of Edith Cranshaw, a Kearsley woman who died recently at the age of 98. The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr John Walsh, officially opened the Jubilee Garden -- also named in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee year -- alongside Rev Douglas, who has suffered a number of strokes.
The garden is on L Block of the Minerva Road hospital, which caters for patients who have had a stroke. Jenny Walsh, head of art projects at the hospital, said: "We got a letter from Jean Douglas asking for a garden on L Block because the closest garden was quite far away.
"Turton Rotary Club told us of this bequest and the local stroke support group bought the benches. It has been a project which has been given support by many people."
