LOTTERY money totalling £1.49m is being used to create 8,090 childcare places across the North-west.
The region was allocated 28 grants by the New Opportunities Fund's Out of School Hours childcare programme.
A total of £29m is being given out to the programme across the UK, and deadlines have been extended to April and June 2003 for grant applications.
