THE ninth Islam Awareness Week has begun with the aim of encouraging peace and understanding between those who follow different religions.
In Manchester, the week was due to be launched with a balloon release in Albert Square.
There will also be exhibitions at libraries throughout the city.
Khalid Anees, the Manchester President of the Islamic Society of Great Britain, said the week will benefit everyone in Britain.
