ANYTHING which can help to restore confidence in our common humanity with other nations must be good news at the moment.
There is a voluntary scheme, HOST, which introduces adults from all over the world who are studying in the UK, to hospitable British people.
An invitation to spend a weekend, or a few days over Christmas, as a welcome guest in a private home, can make a huge difference to a student's understanding of this country. The hosts learn a lot, too, sometimes gaining lasting friendships, and have the satisfaction of making a personal contribution to international goodwill.
HOST (www.hostuk.org) is backed by the British Council and 130 participating universities. As HOST's Voluntary Regional Organiser, I will gladly supply more information: please call 01524 63689.
