HARD drugs, including heroin, are easily available in Bolton, the town's Community Health Council claimed today. At last night's meeting of the CHC, secretary Mrs June Corner said Bolton had reached a new peak in cases of drug taking.
She said: "Recent cases referred to us include a 14-years-old girl who was at a party where hard drugs were being used, parents who discovered a syringe in their son's bedroom and a call from a woman whose nephew had collapsed after drug taking." She said the CHC was setting up a working party on drugs.

IN the religious and social work of Bolton, the Victoria Hall occupies a worthy place. Its extensive operations touch the life of the town at many points, and the speakers at the annual meeting on Tuesday evening had abundant material on which to dwell in urging the claims of the Mission to the sympathy and practical support of the people. The Rev C.W. Andrews said it was about five years to the day since they inaugurated the Mission in the old Ridgway Gates Chapel. At that time they had but the merest handful of people, but today all told they had 650 names on the books.
