PAUL Terzis' decision to accept Leigh Centurions offer of a new one year contract will be the springboard for another assault on Super League writes Mike Hulme

Within hours of agreeing the deal, Terzis was drawing up his battle plans for a fourth NFP campaign.

And those plans included recruiting influential joint-skipper Adam Bristow for another season at Hilton Park.

"We've got unfinished business to attend to," said the Centurions coach.

"Everyone here at Hilton Park, from coaches to players and board, are all fully committed to giving it our best shot to get into Super League."

Terzis always stated his desire to stay at Leigh having guided the club to two Grand Finals and a Minor Premiership in the last three years but his future was in doubt until last weekend when he agreed a new deal with chairman Mike Nolan.

"We had lengthy discussions and it's very pleasing from my point of view, and hopefully from Leigh's point of view, that I'm staying," Terzis adds. "It sends out a loud and clear message to all the clubs that we'll be going all out to win the National League One.

"There will be a lot of hard work done behind the scenes to make sure the public of Leigh gets the rewards they deserve.

"Only this week I've had phone calls from over 20 top players who've expressed an interest in joining us at Hilton Park. They've seen the progress we've made over the last three or four years and they all want to be part of it," he adds.

Terzis is unlikely to make any significant signings until he finds who of his remaining squad want to stay for another season. "We've already got several signed up and I'll be talking to the rest over the next few days. Once that is completed I can sit down and decide which areas we need to be looking at to strengthen.

"There will be changes in playing personnel, there always are during an off-season, but fans can rest assured we're only interested in bring in the best we can afford."

On of his first moves this week was to sign Bristow up for another year.

"Adam was coming out of contract and we had to move quickly. Thankfully the player wants to come back and play for this club, so it was easy really.

"The LISA organisation have pledged to fund Adam's salary next season, so that's a burden taken away from the board. It's a tremendous gesture by them and is an indication of the respect he has around the place."

Leigh are likely to resume pre-season training in mid-November in preparation for the new season which is scheduled to kick off on January 19. Terzis is looking to fix up a pre-season friendly against local opposition on either New Years Eve or New Years Day.

In an other major off-field move the club has generated £250,000 by a share issue to 10 local businessmen.

Each, including Mr Nolan himself, has invested £25,000 and each will take a 10 per cent stake.

Mr Nolan is delighted with his coach's new contract and the cash investment.

"We are absolutely delighted that Paul is staying. We decided it was the way to go forward. Paul has done a lot of good work and we didn't want to lose what we've started.

"For the first time in a long time there's some real forward planning and security at the club. We'll be going for Super League again with the benefit of new financial backing and the experience of the last couple of years," the chairman said.
