TWO more points slipped away from Chorley last night as they were again made to toil by one of the UniBond first division's basement teams.
If the Magpies had put away their limited chances, however, they could have claimed a vital victory but defeat would have been hard on Workington who staged an impressive second-half fightback after trailing at the interval.
Andy Mason was through on goal in the opening minutes but saw his shot rebound from the advancing keeper and there was little to cheer the home fans in a quiet first period until Chorley went ahead on 28 minutes.
David Eatock held the ball up well before releasing Paul Varley down the right and his pinpoint cross was met by the unmarked Mason with a perfectly-timed header.
Jamie Bates was then tantalisingly close to a goal with a fierce volley which flew just over.
Minutes before the break Eatock should have had a penalty when clearly hauled down in the box but the referee waved aside the Magpies' appeals.
Workington were a revitalised side after manager Tommy Cassidy's half-time talk and although the visitors produced few shots on target, Magpies' keeper Mark Molyneaux had to pull off a tremendous save from Will Varty's 25-yard piledriver to keep Chorley in front.
The outcome of the match turned on two attacks within sixty seconds. Eatock raced away for Chorley and should have settled the match but blazed over the bar with just the keeper to beat.
Workington promptly counter-attacked and Robert Ennis cut in from the right on 77 minutes to leave Molyneaux helpless with a powerful rising drive.
CHORLEY...1 WORKINGTON...1
