WALES international forward Chris Morley - currently serving a three-month ban for a drugs offence - has signed for Oldham on a one-year contract.
Morley, elder brother of Great Britain Test forward Adrian Morley, played for Leigh Centurions during 2001 and 2002 but was one of several players released last week.
As a result of his drugs ban - for taking ephedrine - he missed Leigh's Grand Final showdown with Huddersfield and was left out of the Wales squad that played New Zealand last Sunday.
But the ban will expire in, just in time for him to start the new season with Oldham.
"We are satisfied Chris made a genuine error and that nothing like this will happen again," said Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton.
"He didn't take a banned substance knowingly. He took a herbal remedy unaware that it contained the substance ephedrine.
"Chris is well aware of that fact that we don't want to see anything like this at Oldham. He's keen to put it all behind him and to accept a new challenge at a new club. He has a point to prove and our player coach Steve Molloy, who knows him well, is confident he will do just that."
