CAN I ask for a feature on one of the world's most famous music-making groups -- Wingates Band?
For 45 years I have seen that people all over the world have heard of Wingates. While on National Service, I played at the White City Tattoo and met Belgian and Arab musicians who knew of Wingates. In Cyprus, Malta and North Africa, many musicians regarded them highly, and in America the name of Wingates was well known.
During my first ministry in Bethnal Green, London, the local brass band always dreamed of reaching the standard of Wingates, and then in Leicestershire the same happened. Here in Oxford, the admirers of Wingates Band range from university professors and leading lawyers to the players in the Kidlington & Yarnton Bands.
Come on, Bolton Evening News, Bolton seems to virtually ignore Wingates!
