A MAN who drove at more than 100 mph on the M62 was allowed to keep his driving licence by magistrates.
Stuart Humphreys, aged 38, of Sandhill Close, Great Lever, Bolton, could have faced a discretionary disqualification from the bench after he admitted exceeding the 70mph limit on the M62.
But after mitigation from his lawyer, magistrates decided not to ban Humphreys and fined him £300 with £55 costs.
A police patrol had seen Humphreys in his BMW Mini Cooper speed down a slip road at a motorway junction and then hit speeds of between 102 and 104 mph on the M62 itself.
The court heard that Humphreys was a self-employed car body repairer who was highly rated in the car industry and travelled 25,000 miles a year.
The bench agreed that banning Humphreys would put his job in jeopardy. Six penalty points were added to his licence.
