BOLTON continued their winning form against Bedians with a comfortable, if unspectacular 27-14 victory.
Building on last week's morale boosting win against Lytham was paramount to continue the improvement made over the last two weeks.
The Bolton team made a powerful start when Guy Lovgreen's kick nestled a yard from the try line and the Bedians' winger construed to miskick the ball straight into the hands of flanker Rob Killiner who crashed over
Bolton continued to pressure and went further ahead form another Lovgreen kick when winger John Keech charged down an attempted clearance. With the ball bouncing on the deck near the try line Steve Knibb stooped to pick up and score the try which was converted by Lovgreen. Bedians grabbed a try to put Bolton 12-7 ahead at the break.
The second half saw several changes and the return from injury of Miles Edwards who would play an important role for the victory. Bolton again put the visitors under pressure early in the second half but never made use of the great set piece positions they found themselves in.
Bolton effectively sealed victory with a try from winger Andy Leigh who drived into the corner after great work from centre Pete Marriott. A Lovgreen penalty gave the scoreline more respectability until Bedians grabbed a try and conversion to close in at 20-14.
With five minutes remaining Bolton finally settled the issue when Miles Edwards scooted over from 30 yards after picking up a loose ball.
Bolton's second tream suffered from a lapse in concentration which cost them a late try and a 10-5 defeat at Bedians. The team arrived late and were soon behind to ab try but levelled when Kevin McGill broke and sent hooker Lee McDermot over.
The thirds were comfortably beaten by Colnes second team 27-2.
The Vets produce their best rugby of the season in the first half as they ran in nine tries to beat a never say die Bedians 57-0. Sunday saw the junior section brave the elements, to celebrate the official opening of the clubhouse by former England player and junior vice president of the RFU, Malcolm Phillips. The Colts beat Ormskirk 10-5 and the U15s defeated Oldham 17 - 0.
