THESE pictures of Bolton and district were taken in the 1930s by the late Mr W.E. House, says his son Tony, of Rossall Road, Tonge Moor, Bolton, who has lent them to me.
Mr House, who worked for Marks and Spencer in Deansgate, was a very keen amateur photographer, and left many pictures.
Top right and on the bottom are of the 63 steps at Barrow Bridge; there are, as you can see, many visitors, but I am told that such numbers were regular in those days. On the photograph on the bottom, you can even see the charabancs which took them there.
Top left is a picture of Whitakers store on Deansgate, and in the middle, two photographs of Bradshaw Road, Bradshaw, one looking towards the church, the other in the opposite direction. Probably not a lot has changed over the years, apart from the style of car and the number of them on the roads!
