THE gruelling Flora 1,000 mile challenge is to hold trials in Chorley next month.

The Next Generation club in Chorley will host the search on December 3 to find five competitors to attempt to complete 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours, unaided and on foot, and then run the London Marathon.

A final audition will be held in London for the Challenge, which takes place during March and April next year.

The event begins on the Mall and continues up and down the London Marathon route for 1,000 hours until the morning of the Marathon when the competitors arrive in Blackheath in time to take part in the 2003 Flora London Marathon to complete the challenge.

Each competitor will receive £6 for every mile completed and a bonus of £1,000 for completing 1,000 miles.

A further £1,000 will be paid to challenge competitors who finish the Flora London Marathon within seven hours. The first challenge man and woman to finish the marathon will each receive an additional £3,000 in prize money.
