THE caption on the back of this picture, taken in October, 1955, says simply: "Tram tracks at Wigan Road." Perhaps interesting enough in itself, but fascinating for other things it shows, such as the Victoria Colliery (Deane Pit) on the right (where the Barton Grange garden centre now stands) behind the Three Pigeons pub, and at the top of the hill, the area where the Tavern public house and restaurant now is.
