LAST Saturday I printed a picture of Wigan Road, Bolton, taken in 1955, and showing the Victoria Colliery (Deane Pit) and the Three Pigeons pub.
Mr Geoff Gubbin now tells me that "at this point the Westhoughton/Bolton boundary zig-zagged across the road, and for a good 20 years neither Lancashire County Council nor Bolton Council lifted the 80 yards or so of tram tracks that were technically in Westhoughton, as is clearly visible in your picture.
The photograph would have been taken from a point in Bolton from which the tracks had been lifted."
