Those who read this column regularly will know what I mean, and now Mrs E. Corkin (nee Whittaker), of John Street, Bolton, has contacted me to say that she remembers Little Edith being carried down John Street by a young man.
"I asked what her name was and she said 'Edith'," said Mrs Corkin. "She was going to visit her aunt. It would be about 1948 as my son was only five years old -- he is now 59. Edith was a lovely lady."
