IT was back to the Arena for the BSF winter tennis league after the national championships, when only a handful of shots matched normal Friday night fare.
When the dust had settled, there were still two teams unbeaten -- Walmersley A and David Lloyd A.
The former had a comfortable win over the Cricket Club for whom a defiant Sandra Birchall had two wins.
David Lloyd survived an expected tough challenge from a strong Barrow Bridge team and now await, this weekend, Astley.
This seems to be the season for setting records, whether it be vast wins or even vaster defeats.
This week saw Dave Thompson and Jeanette Berry spend half an hour on a 2-2 draw against M Read and Julie Jones (nee Calrow), while Bolton School A's Mark Williams became the first winter league man to play three sets without dropping a game -- a notable effort in the men's set especially.
Egerton are going extremely well and this week delivered another blow to the promotion hopes of Andrea Wallworks's David Lloyd B with their hard core couple of Mike Foxall and Carol Laverick in good form.
David Lloyd won the ladies set when Miss Wallwork teamed up with Janet Lloyd.
