This afternoon, during the absence of myself and my wife from home, a young tree in our front garden was wantonly broken completely in twain -- presumably by some rowdies who made a pandemonium of a quiet lane. It would be interesting to know what the police were doing to permit such an act of vandalism in broad daylight. Yours etc, Henry Edlin, 11 Bennetts-lane, Halliwell.
