WE attended the Remembrance Sunday Service at the War Memorial, Egerton, and were very disappointed to discover the police were unable to halt the traffic around the area during the service (lasting about 10 minutes).
They were only able to do so for the actual minute of silence.
This has never been a problem previously, with drivers just switching their engines off, and, in some cases joining in. It made for a far more peaceful and dignified time to reflect than this year's, listening to cars rushing by.
Councillors were present at the ceremony, and we have discussed this matter with them in the hope of having it rectified for next year.
What sort of society are we if we cannot spare 10 minutes once a year to remember and reflect after the sacrifice that was made for us?
