OVER the past few weeks everybody has been listening to stories of the dreaded "Green Goddess".

It seems strange that fire engines that come out of service a lot younger can't be given to our armed forces, and scrap the aged "Green Goddess". A monthly commercial vehicle magazine has many ex-fire engines that are still equipped with most facilities of the modern tender.

Can someone answer why we must keep these age-old machines, which should really be in a vehicle museum?
