JUNIOR wizard Harry Potter is working his own special magic on local children who need to wear glasses.

The Bolton opticians which sell Harry Potter spectacles -- complete with glow-in-the-dark logos and secret panels -- report they have never been busier.

And youngsters who were once unhappy to have to wear glasses are now volunteering to wear the new frames. "They think they're really cool!" said Lynn Digner, manager of Dolland & Aitchison in Newport Street.

Lynn, who has worked at the town centre shop for 12 years, says that they are getting more young customers than ever since they started stocking the frames linked to the two films. "Children can be very cruel to each other about something like glasses," she explained.

"But now they are really keen to wear these, which is very important when sight problems need to be tackled early."

The glasses -- ironically, very similar to old and much-dreaded NHS frames -- cost £39.99 with an NHS voucher. They come in 36 different types, with a spell book shaped case and a fold out magic wand, and are also on sale at the firm's Horwich shop in Lee Lane.

"It's not just the boys, either," added Lynn. "Lots of girls fancy being female Harry Potters wearing the frames."

Certainly, her eight year-old son Daniel thinks they are "ace" .... and he doesn't even need to wear glasses!
