THE Chisinau National Opera will be back at the Manchester Opera House on November 25-30, with their stunning traditional production of Verdi's Aida, plus a newly-staged version of Bellini's Norma with magnificent sets based on Stonehenge.
Aida, probably the most popular opera ever written, is the story of war, jealousy and revenge, at whose heart is the doomed love of the beautiful Ethiopian slave girl, Aida, and the Egyptian hero, Radames.
Its many wonderful arias include Ritorna Vincitor and Celeste Aida, as well as the classic Triumphal March. The show will also include an enchanting children's ballet, with stunning sets.
Norma is a powerful and lyrical jewel in the crown of bel canto opera and gave Maria Callas perhaps her most famous and demanding role. It tells of the tragedy that results from the forbidden love of the Druid High Priestess, Norma, for the Roman officer, Pollione. Performances will be sung in the original Italian, and accompanied by surtitles, to enable you to follow the story as it unfolds. Aida will be performed on November 25-28 & 30, while there is just one performance of Norma on November 29.
