ARTIST Peter Hollingsworth presents more than 30 works depicting the green and varied countryside under threat from encroaching development that lies around the boundaries of Leigh, Tyldesley and Atherton in his current exhibition.
The display of watercolour paintings, entitled Rural Islands, runs at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh until November 30.
At first glance Hollingsworth's paintings display a familiar English rural environment, and then one realises that these "islands" exist rather precariously as spaces which could be lost.
The paintings are in the Stairs Gallery and Derby Room and open to view during library opening hours.
SUKI Chan, artist in residence at the Turnkpike Gallery since January 2001, presents her exhibition, Little Rituals, from November 23 to January 18.
The display is a culmination of work produced during her time at Turnpike and marks the end of her residency period.
The work has been inspired by her travels -- her experience of different cultures, often mixed with her own, together with her childhood experiences.
The installation has three elements, incorporating video projection, sound, fabric, dyed rice, sewn paper boats and found seed pods. Suki will give a talk in the gallery on November 27, 2pm, and admission is free.
