AN insight into Bolton's industrial past was brought to life during an event designed to get more people interested in the town's history.
The Bolton Steam Museum gave visitors the chance to witness Victorian engineering in full flight for free, with fully restored and working steam trains between 130-160 years old in operation.
The museum at Atlas Mill on Chorley Old Road is operated by the Northern Mill Engine Society.
It currently has 18 engines on show.
The open days at the museum were part of the Heritage Weekend event which also included a special tour of Bolton town hall letting the public see gold and jewels not normally on public view.
Other venues which took part in the event included Bolton's oldest pub, the 12th century Ye Olde Man and Scythe on Churchgate and Bolton Parish Church tower.
