CARLISLE 25 TYLDESLEY 3: TYLDESLEY RU made the long trip up to Carlisle and despite playing some good rugby the 25-3 defeat was a little flattering to the home side.
Carlisle applied early pressure in the scrums and went 5-0 up with an unconverted try but Tyldesley hit back with a Mark
Dickinson penalty. Both teams then defended well but Carlisle again broke the Tyldesley line to go 12-3 ahead at the break. The second period saw Tyldesley let their guard down to concede an early unconverted try and a penalty which gave Carlisle a 15 point cushion. Midway through the half three Tyldesley players were yellow carded in a fifteen minute period, effectively reducing them to 12 men at one stage, the home sidefared little better with two Carlisle players also spending some time in the sin-bin.
Restored to full strength Tyldesley ran out of steam near the end and Carlisle wrapped the game up with a converted try for a scoreline that did not reflect the pressure or possession that Tyldesley had throughout the game.
On Saturday Rossendale visit St.George's Park.
Tyldesley Knights continued their good run in the North West Pennines Second XV League with a 17-3 win at Sedgeley Park, while Tyldesley Dragons again proved to be too strong this time for Broughton with a comprehensive 25-5 win.
The Dragons squad is now so over-subscribed that Tyldesley are looking for five or more players to start a fourth team. For details ring the club on 01942 882967.
