Bolton town centre in 1981; the aerial picture was taken our photographer who hitched a lift from local councillor John Hanscomb, a member of the Lancashire Aero Club based at Barton, who , according to the caption at the time, "whenever he wants to have a quick look round the borough, he jumps in a plane and flies over it."

In the foreground was the new Crown Court, and you can see Lee Mans Crescent, the Town Hall and shopping precinct. Perhaps most interesting of all, though, just below the clock tower of the Town Hall, the remains of the Albert Hall could be seen after the 1981 fire.
