WHEN a Bolton Evening News photographer took the picture shown above in 1960-61, these pupils at Markland Hill CP School were still in the old building.
It has been sent to me by Mrs Jean B. Hurst (nee Hickson) -- she is the girl holding the watering can -- who remembers many of the names of those on the photograph, but is interested to know the whereabouts of many of them.
"I still have contact with some -- Cyraine Wilkinson, Roger Morgan, Carol Horner and John Isherwood," she writes, and apart from those mentioned above, she still recalls many other names, including Paul Wain, Cynthia Barnes (took the middle name Mary later), Anthony Banks, Dorothy Sutcliffe, Vincent Riley, Ingrid Ball, Roger Marks, Janet Hart, Roger Morgan, Gillian Roberts, Jane Ward, Diana Stokes, Janet Brooks, Pauline Barlow, Elizabeth Gregory and Maureen Shaw.
"Our teacher was Mr Worrall, who went on to be head at Church Road when my own children went there, and then Mr Eric Calderbank, who was promoted to head of the school. Some years ago I saw both of them, but wonder if they are still alive?"
So, if anyone can help with other names, or information about anyone on the photograph, you can contact Mrs Hurst at 245 Greenmount Lane, Heaton, Bolton (tel/fax 01204 847045), or e-mail on jeanbankshurst@aol.com
