The late Coronation Street star Pat Phoenix put the newly-trained croupiers through their places when the Bolton Lido opened its doors in March, 1963.
About 1,400 gamblers and fans packed into the former cinema in Bradshawgate, and heard Pat denying rumours that she was secretly engaged.
"I should be so daft," she said.
