Horwich RMI Harriers Jason Hodgson and Janet Rashleigh both finished runners-up in the Red Rose cross country league fixture at Burnley.

Both athletes had great runs over the tough hilly and muddy course. Janet was well backed up by Suzanne Budgett in fifth (first ladies over 35) and Gaynor Higson in eighth (second ladies over 35), which meant once again the Horwich ladies won the team category.

The same three Horwich ladies were also first vets team.

Mary White followed up her success at Bolton by again winning the Ladies over 50 category.

Horwich were narrowly beaten into second place by Rossendale in both the men's and vets team races.

Tony Hesketh (vets over 50) and Brian Gore (vets over 55) both had terrific runs as they won their age categories.

Rachel Thompson ran well to finish third and Katherine Cole seventh in the Under 17s race, whilst Kirsty Milner was seventh in the Under 15s competition.

Christopher Leigh competed in last weekend's British Modern Biathlon National Championships at Sheffield in the 15/16 years age category and finished a superb sixth in an event that involved a 200m swim and a 2K run.

Chris is definitely a huge talent and this year has already been abroad to represent the GB Junior Modern Pentathlon Team on several occasions.

Katherine Eccles this week received her gold medal after winning the Under 11s triathlon event (long jump and cricket ball throw) at the prestigious Tarton Games held at Gateshead International Stadium.
