Q. WHAT is the value of a Toby Jug I have of Mr Punch. On the base it says Old Staffordshire? Mr V
A: Old Staffordshire was a trade-name used by the Staffordshire-based firm of William Kent, which was founded in the late 19th century and continued to produce pottery until the early 1960s. The example you have is one of many novelty items made by this firm, and is likely to date from the 1930s. Value would be about £85.
Q: Recently, I bought a second-hand wristwatch from a market stall for £8. On the face it has a caricature of former American President Bill Clinton, and the Stars and Stripes. Is it worth anything? Mr N
A: This was a cheaply-made watch manufactured in China in the mid 1990s and sold as a novelty for just a few pounds. However, because of its political theme, it attracts collectors and is still fetching around £30.
