ON a recent Thursday I had an appointment at The Bolton Royal Hospital at 11am.

Knowing how hard it is to park, I got to the hospital at 10.05am, to look for a parking spot. At 11am I had had enough of riding around the hospital, searching every car park for somewhere to park, and returned home, missing my appointment.

That night in the Bolton Evening News, I read about the cancelling of the Horwich buses to the hospital. No wonder it is getting very difficult to find a parking spot! From Westhoughton, unless you travel to Bolton and then catch the bus to the hospital, it is virtually impossible to get there! I know there is a bus service to the hospital, but this only runs infrequently.

Surely something can be done -- build multi-storey car parks or extend the existing parks? Even trying to drive on the parks was a trial, as cars were parked anywhere, blocking the lanes, approach roads and the like. On every park, cars were driving round looking for a parking spot, and other cars who had parked, or who had got fed up of searching for somewhere, were trying to get off! It was absolute chaos.

A lot of cars were parked on double yellow lines, desperate in their quest to find a parking place.
