A YOUNGSTER will be able to pedal her way to school after scooping first prize in a competition to promote greener modes of transport.
Lauren Dobson, aged nine, won a bicycle after successfully completing a word search as part of global "Walk to School Week" which was held last month.
The Claypool Primary School pupil was presented with the bicycle, which was a gift from the Big W Store, by Bolton Mayor, Cllr John Walsh.
A team of 10 runners-up received goodie bags and both Blackrod Methodist Primary School and Chalfont Primary School were given special prizes for submitting so many competition entries
Walk to School Week was a big success in Bolton with pupils at Tonge Moor Primary School and Moorgate Primary School taking part in a "Walking Bus" scheme which involved the youngsters walking to school en masse with their parents.
Bolton Council's executive member for the environment, Cllr Guy Harkin, said: "As it was walk to school week, we felt it important to encourage parents and children to walk to school and to teach children the Green Cross Code."
