DAVID Wolfendale argues that the firefighters do not deserve £8.50 per hour, as he earns less than they do.
If we take this to its logical conclusion, no one would be paid more than the minimum wage, as someone else would earn less than they do. This clearly is nonsense! He goes on to argue that they get four days off in eight days. Well, I have worked shift work in the past and have worked 12-hour shifts and unsociable hours. You may get more days off, but you work the same number of hours! I have gone back to a 9-5 Monday-Friday job and I know what I prefer. The firefighters work weekends, Bank holidays and around the clock to protect all of us, including David Wolfendale.
They risk their lives to keep us safe and deserve our support in their fight for a decent wage. If we are talking about greed then it is the company directors being paid millions of pounds who are greedy. That is greed, not the £8.50 an hour the firefighters demand and deserve. We should all support them in their fight for a decent wage for a difficult, dangerous and skilled job.
