The progress of the Pack Horse Hotel extensions in 1952 are shown in this photograph, with the new portion on the left contrasting with the style of the original building on the right.
The paper reported: "When the extension is completed, the building will contain 43 bedrooms. The next stage will be the completion in a few weeks of the new building on Nelson-sq. After that will come the demolition of the old property, which used to accommodate a hairdresser's shop, and the joining together of the new building and the original hotel.
"The present licence allows the builders to go no further than the completion of the new building, but the final application for the licence to join the hotel is in hand."
