THE Rugby Football League are poised to put the Europe back into Super League by re-admitting a French club in 2004.
The European Super League Championship kicked off in 1996 with a Gallic fanfare when Paris defeated Sheffield Eagles in front of a bumper crowd of 17,873 at Charlety Stadium but the plug was pulled on the St Germain club after two seasons of struggle.
But the French have never given up hope of regaining a foothold in the British game and the signs are that at least one club, this time from the game's heartland in the south of France, will be accepted back into the fold in 12 months
time.
Toulouse, who already have a bid on the table, are the front-runners but Villeneuve, who reached the Challenge Cup quarter-finals two years ago, and Union Treiziste Catalan (UTC) are also vying for places in Super League.
