MOTORISTS are risking becoming the victims of car crime by taking no notice of safety campaigns, a new study reveals.
Research undertaken by Autoglass showed eight in ten North-west drivers fear car-jackers -- but only 25 per cent lock their doors or close their windows as they travel.
Police, ministers and UK safety grouips have all branded car-jacking a major crime concern.
The glass repair company says more than seven in ten drivers do not think the Government is doing enough to prevent car crime.
Nearly 73 per cent want the police to be given more resources to tackle the problem and over 51 per cent want all car criminals to be jailed.
Ian Carlisle, managing director of Autoglass, said: "The danger is that people get despondent about car crime and do not bother to look after themselves.
"Clearly the message that drivers in the region must take car of themselves needs to get home harder."
