CHILDREN will become computer whizz-kids thanks to storming to victory in a competition.

The pupils at Oldhams Primary School in Astley Bridge were thrilled to win the Bolton Evening News Software for Schools competition after saving more tokens than any other primary school in the town.

The children are now looking forward to using the games, science, maths and language programmes.

Bolton Evening News education reporter Jane Bullock presented the software to headteacher Peter Fenton. Mr Fenton said: "This software will be extremely useful to us because it's so expensive to buy.

"The children have already spotted lots of programmes they want to play on and the software will be put to good use at our computer club."

Pupils at Lord's College School in Manchester Road will also be busy showing off their computer skills after winning first prize in the secondary school section of the contest.

The youngsters have been presented with a variety of state-of-the-art software aimed at motivating teenagers' interest in learning.
