SOPHIE Gore stormed to second place in the Under 12s section at the latest round of the North West Cyclo-Cross League at Otterspool Park.

Horwich fielded three riders in the category, with Sophie closely followed by sister Clair. Sadly Drew Fulton crashed out in dramatic style.

Leader Liam Worthy rode strongly again in the Youth Series, while in the Seniors Mark Leyland, fourth, was first home from Horwich followed by Dave Headon, 11th, Russell Owen, 15, Amy Hunt, first lady and 16th, and Rick Sale, 18th.

Sunday's event was held at Sherdley Park in St Helens, where once again the Gore sisters rode well to finish second and sixth. Liam Worthy finished third in the very close youth race and in the seniors Dave Headon was first home in 12th place followed by Amy in 20th. Mark Leyland did not finish due to a broken chain.
