A WARNING was issued to pensioners in Hunger Hill today after two conmen posing as water board officials stole a "substantial" amount of cash from a 90-year-old woman.
The thieves struck at her home in Doyle Road at 5pm on Wednesday.
They knocked on her door and one distracted her while the other walked into her front room where he found the money.
The pensioner -- who has not been named -- was left shocked but unhurt.
Sgt Bill Crittenden, of Bolton Police, said: "Utility service officials will always pre-arrange appointments and carry identification cards.
"Residents should never open their doors to anyone they are unsure of. We do not want people to be worried but everyone should always be vigilant."
The conmen are both described as white and aged in their 20s. One had blond hair.
Anyone with information should should contact Bolton CID on 0161 856 5640 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting Crime reference number 360994H/02.
