SHAKERS boss Andy Preece reckons Steve Redmond and Liam George will not buckle under the pressure as their contracts go on the line.

Bury's home clash with Exeter could be the pair's final appearance for the club if their performances fail to earn them another extension to the contracts.

Both signed short term deals at the start of the season, before being handed one month's extended employment.

But now they face the Gigg Lane exit unless they can convince club bosses to keep them on the water tight wage bill.

"We are reviewing the situation as we go along," said Preece.

"We just have to take it month by month because the financial situation is still tight. We can't afford to do anything rash.

"Both played last Saturday and did okay, so we will see what happens this weekend and review it again after that game."

That puts all the emphasis on the clash with the Grecians but Preece is confident they will not wilt under the spotlight.

Attacking midfielder George is well-versed in singing for his supper, with trial spells at Clydebank and Stevenage since falling out of favour at Luton in March.

While Redmond has a wealth of top level experience to call upon from an 18-year career, including eight years at the heart of Manchester City's defence.

"They are playing under pressure at the moment but I thought they both did well against Carlisle," said Preece.

"It can work two ways, really. Some people thrive under pressure and some buckle. If you are going to be successful, you have to learn to adapt to that situation and see it through.

"It's a test of character but I'm sure they are both strong enough to cope."

Their cause has been helped by City and Preston North End, who have taken Terry Dunfield and Pawel Abbott back off the loan market for the time being at least, lifting Bury's wage burden a little.

But Preece has not ruled out the possibility of tempting one of them back into the fold.

"We are monitoring their situation because we'd love to get Pawel and Terry back," he said.

"But we will just have to wait and see what happens at their clubs. We have to respect the clubs' decisions."

Shakers are without Gareth Seddon, Lee Connell and George Clegg for the Exeter clash but all three could be back next week.

for the LDV Vans Trophy clash with Tranmere Rovers next week.

"It's important to win as we dont have a league game for two weeks," he said.

"After then we will assess where we are and what we want to do.

"Its a very important game for us. We seem to be rewarding the away fans with wins then letting our home fans down and that's got to stop."
