THE first rounds of the Divisional Cups did not produce any surprise results with the majority of the matches going with current league form.
In the Brian Gittins Cup for Premier and Division One teams, three Premier teams won through to round two, Hilton A beat Rammy B 5-3, and Hilton Tameside comfortably disposed of Lostock 5-0.
The holders, Wharton A, won a close match with Nomads A from Division One, giving five points start they lost the first set but then managed to keep ahead all the way despite stubborn resistance from Nomads, running out 6-3 winners, which included three wins by Barry Elliot.
Brian Heyes trebled for Wharton B, who beat fellow First Division side Mosses B 5-4, and two other First Division teams went through in Ladybridge A and Little Lever B.
The George Yates Shield produced some close results with four matches going the distance. BEN A won the last two sets to clinch their 5-4 win at Hilton G who received seven points start, and Alan Crompton's treble for Heaton E included the last set of the night to clinch a 5-4 win over Hilton F.
Derek Edwards trebled for Rammy D who won 5-4 at Meadow Hill B, as did junior Siful Khan for Hilton E who won at Farnworth by the same score.
All three Little Lever D players won two sets in their 6-3 win over Heaton D, and Egerton Park beat fellow Second Division team Little Lever C 6-2, which included three wins by Frank Green. Meadow Hill A and Heaton C both scored 5-1 wins, and Ladybridge B won their match 5-2 with Hilton H receiving a walkover.
Four matches in the Ron Hindle Trophy recorded a 6-3 scoreline. Cup holders Heaton F beating Ellesmere B which included three wins by Dave Bevitt, all three Ladybridge F players won two sets in their win over Heaton G, Ladybridge E beat a two-man Hilton J, and Hilton K won at BEN B with their players winning two sets each.
In the final match Hilton I beat their L team who received six points start 7-2, three wins here for Lee Davenport and two apiece for Alan Revell and Steve Roz.
