A 37-YEAR-OLD Wanderers fan has died after falling 60ft from railway arches in Bolton.
Timothy Coward, aged 37, is believed to have plunged through a gap between the two railway bridges as he was walking home after watching Wanderers at Maine Road on Saturday.
His body was discovered at the foot of the two bridges, off Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, early yesterday.
Det Insp Peter Jackson of Bolton CID said: "Police inquiries are continuing but there is no suggestion of foul play.
"But at this stage we do not know how Mr Coward came to fall from the arches and are trying to trace his last movements.
"We are appealing for anyone who saw him on Saturday night to contact the police."
Mr Coward of Crompton Way, Bolton, had been to watch the match between Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City at Maine Road on Saturday.
Detectives say he called his mother at about 7.30pm to say he was on his way home, but never arrived. His body was discovered on his back beneath one of the arches in a scrapyard off Tonge Moor Road.
A team of forensic scientists combed the scene until 5pm last night when the body was removed.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police and British Transport Police were both called to the scene.
Firefighters broke into the scrapyard to allow police and paramedics to gain access to the body.
Trains running along the busy railway line were halted during the afternoon and evening.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said they had no idea how Mr Coward was able to get on to the railway bridge.
Mr Coward was described as 6ft 2ins, of heavy build and was wearing a brown leather jacket with a green fleece underneath.
Anyone who saw him on Saturday night is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5851
