TALKS are set to continue this week to try to end the train drivers' dispute which is causing misery for hundreds of passengers.
First North Western bosses met the union Aslef last week and have agreed to continue negotiations.
The dispute began in the summer and has led to 48-hour weekend strikes, weekday strikes and a reduced timetable at all times.
First North Western managing director Vernon Barker said: "We are pleased to be back around the negotiating table and the talks have been a good step forward towards resolving the dispute."
Two further 48-hour weekend strikes are planned for December 14 and 15, and December 21 and 22.
First North Western's improved offer gives drivers a 19 per cent pay rise, phased over three years, for a 35 hour, four day working week. The basic salary for a driver in January 2004 would be £28,000.
The company is responsible for running the majority of services which pass through Bolton, including the busy Blackpool North to Manchester Airport line.
