Bolton RUFC 6 Burnage 17: BOLTON will be disappointed not to have taken the two league points from a game which they dominated for long periods.
The only score they had to show for all their hard work was a penalty kicked by Guy Lovgreen, although full back Steve Morrison appeared to have scored when he dived over the line but somehow the visitors defender managed to get underneath and hold the ball up.
Bolton continued to press but could not find a way through in the difficult conditions and, in a rare visit into the Bolton half, Burnage fly half Martyn Burkett kicked a long range penalty to level the scores for half-time.
Burnage took hold of the game in the second half with a change of tactics and the kicking of Burkett constantly turning Bolton back.
A mistake at a line out, when the ball was spilled, led to a soft try for the visitors, which was also converted but Bolton responded with a second penalty by Lovgreen.
The Bolton fly half then put the home side in a glorious field position only for the line out to fail again at a crucial moment. Burnage cleared their lines and a high bomb by Burkett was dropped by full back David Hulme for Burnage to score their second try and win the game.
Bolton Seconds travelled to Burnage and won 29-10. Killiner, Ventris, Hackin and Green all scored with prop Kieron Hill putting in a hard working display.
Bolton Thirds were let down by Fleetwood while the Vets were Bolton's third team to travel way this weekend and lost a competitive game at Didsbury 22-15. Their tries came from Dave Ball, Dave Toch and Alex Metcalfe.
