De La Salle 0, Tyldesley RUFC 7: TYLDESLEY RU ended their recent run of bad form with a workmanlike performance against Salford side De La Salle.
In easily the worst conditions of the season, the continuous driving rain began to turn the De La Salle pitch into a quagmire on which Tyldesley where dominant for the first 30 minutes.
An accurate and astute kicking game from fly half Mark Dickinson pinned De La Salle in their own half and good scrummaging and lineout work from the forwards saw Tydesley threaten but not cross the try line.
With a few minutes remaining in the half, De La Salle broke out and some neat passing nearly brought its reward before Dickinson again cleared the ball.
The second half saw Tyldesley again drive forward, with man of the match Andrew Simpson continually involved in all the action. A break from the young New Zealander set up a ruck on the De La Salle 22-metre line and blind side flanker Ian Worsfold spied his chance to snipe from the base of the ruck and race in to the right of the posts for a try converted by Dickinson.
The home side then turned up the pressure but the Tyldesley line held firm with Worsfold and Simpson particularly good in stifling any attack before it got momentum.
The final whistle brought a slender but deserved victory for Tyldesley against a De La Salle side, who played well but failed to get into gear.
Tyldesley now meet bottom club Kirkby Lonsdale at St George's on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
Despite losing four key players to injury prior to kick-off, Tyldesley Knights edged an exciting 15-14 win over De La Salle's second team.
Peter Hayes and Dean Waterworth crossed the whitewash, with Jamie Aldred bagging two goals, to seal the win.
Tyldesley Dragons crashed 55-0 against tough opposition at Eccles.
