STEVE Waywell has pledged to clear out the dead wood at Hilton Park after Saturday's embarrassing loss to Telford writes Martyn Hindley

The RMI boss said that "at least three or four players" no longer figured in his plans and that he would be looking to change personnel as soon as the board lets him.

"I'm not willing to elaborate on which players they might be," said Waywell.

"I would just say that we need players with a bit of bite in midfield because that is what we are lacking at the moment."

And despite fabled bust-ups with midfielder Ged Kielty in the past, the under-fire boss added that the former Southport and Altrincham man would be staying with the club.

"Ged has scored seven goals from midfield so far this season, so that shows how well he has been playing.

"In the past, I have thought that he might not have been giving 100 per cent but at the moment he is having a good run."

Amid the backdrop of yet more instability at Leigh RMI comes a cup draw that they really could have done without.

Vauxhall Motors of the Unibond Premier League caused a huge FA Cup upset last week when they not only took Second Division QPR to a replay at Loftus Road but then proceeded to beat them on penalties as well to earn a second round date with Macclesfield Town.

And they will now travel to Leigh when their FA Trophy campaign kicks-off in the New Year.
