WIGAN Council is calling time on drinking in the town's streets from today.
It will now be a criminal offence to drink alcohol in designated parts of Wigan under new legal powers adopted by the council.
Police officers will be able to seize alcohol from anyone drinking in King Street, Library Street, Crawford Street and the Market Place areas. People who continue to drink or refuse to hand over the booze face £500 fines.
